The Arlington, Virginia neighborhood of Westover Village may be one of the lesser-known urban villages of the area, but it certainly has all of the hallmarks of a great community. Unlike many of the predominantly single-family neighborhoods in the area, Westover is lucky to still be pedestrian friendly. Residents can easily walk to conveniences and entertainment, including parks and grocery stores. The neighborhood also has a charming historic atmosphere that trickles not only into community landmarks, but also some of the houses in the neighborhood.

Not surprisingly, Westover Village is located on the western side of Arlington, hovering over the Orange line between the Ballston and East Falls Church Metro stations and I-66. The surrounding neighborhoods are Tara-Leeway Heights, Lacey Forest, Bluemont, Dominion Hills, and Madison Manor. Starting at I-66 and N Jefferson Street, the neighborhood continues north up N Jefferson Street, west along 16th Street N, north up N Lexington Street, west along 18th Street N, southwest down N McKinley Road and back east along I-66 until it meets back up with the neighborhood’s starting point.
Homes for Sale in Westover Village
Westover Village’s homes for sale are generally single-family houses, with Colonial-style homes dominating the housing stock. However, the tree-lined streets of the neighborhood also contain Victorians, duplexes and more. Since many of these homes were built pre-World War II, its common to see homes with renovations such as additions, style changes and more.
Going along with the pre-World War II Colonials, there are also some garden-style apartments in the area. These buildings have the same kind of style as the neighborhood’s Colonial homes, with brick exteriors and symmetrical window placement.
Things to Do Around Westover Village
Via Washington Boulevard, residents can easily get into Ballston and Clarendon, the two major entertainment neighborhoods in Arlington. Ballston is known for its nightlife and restaurant options, including Rustico, A-Town, and World of Beer. Clarendon is the destination for dining and nightlife in Arlington and has so many restaurants and bars to try. Some of the popular restaurants in the area include Green Pig Bistro, Liberty Tavern and Lyon Hall. For nightlife, check out Mad Rose Tavern, Spider Kelly’s or CIRCA for happy hour or a night out on the town.
Westover also has its own retail district at the Westover Village Shops. Most of the retail options in the area include errand destinations, but there are also some cool local and specialty shops and restaurants, such as Lebanese Taverna, Trade Roots and Lost Dog Café. The Westover Beer Garden is open year round and has great draft beers, plus live music on weekends.
Westover Park is the main recreation option for a trip to get some fresh air. This park has four acres of space, a picnic shelter, lighted basketball courts, volleyball courts, a grass field, ornamental garden and a playground. In addition to the main park in the neighborhood, Westover Village borders Bon Air Park. This massive section of green space has 24 acres, playgrounds, volleyball courts, basketball courts, picnic areas, a nature path and public gardens.
Traveling Around Westover Village
As with many of Arlington Virginia’s single-family neighborhoods, transportation via car is the main way to get in and around Arlington. Being so close to I-66 certainly has its benefits. This major highway delivers residents access to Washington, DC and further out west to other areas of Virginia. Another main artery of the neighborhood is Washington Boulevard, which cuts the community in half. This main road leads into Arlington’s popular entertainment destinations including Ballston and Clarendon.

Westover Village is a bit further north from the urban areas of Arlington, giving it a more suburban vibe perfect for families and those looking to settle down. The adorable Colonial homes, combined with a vibrant community scene and plenty of recreation, make Westover Village a great place to plant roots.

One recent and great addition to the neighborhood is the Italian S. I love the Capri and Milano sandwiches. The service is always quick and you can pay while your sandwich is being made. Eat outside when the weather is agreeable.

Westover is the epitome of character and neighborhood charm in Arlington. Everything from its farmer's market, to Santa visits, to locally-owned shops and restaurants make Westover a pleasant community to call home.
This park is literally hidden at the corner of three dead end streets, but one of the most fun tot-lots in the county! Walking distance to Westover Village, it features great places to climb, swing, play, ride bikes and have a covered picnic under a couple of pavilions. Because it's tucked away, you never hear traffic and don't need to worry about kids running off into a street too.
